Um, you spend it no matter what. A big tank usually saves gas. Less trips out of the way to fill up. Suburbans have been 40 gal + for years. The range is awesome

I can only dream of the day when I have to worry about range. Right now range is only as far as the women and children can hold it,,,, which isn't usually too far, lol

Mine is 35 gallons and it's not that bad to fill up. Making it to RC on 3/4 of a tank is great though

Work is on the fence between (2) of the 2011 Chevy 2500 Gas trucks or (2) of the 2011 F-250 Gas trucks. None of the local Dodge dealers seem to want to work with a work truck lease agreement so they aren't even considering the Dodge trucks.

Which is probably best :fst:

And it's likely they will go with the Fords after they decided to lease the worst engine/trans combos ever offered by Chevrolet.

Ford's new 6.7 Scorpion Diesel is rated at 400 horsepower and 725 pound-feet. They added a bunch of new concepts to the engine, like multi-fire piezoelectric injectors and twin turbos. So it should be interesting to see what the modders get out of it.

Has anyone here heard of this DPF. Its the new emmisions for all diesels. My boss and I were talking about it today. Its gonna be nothing but headaches as for as I'm concerned. I wouldnt buy anything diesel for a couple years until they get the bugs worked out.

I have attached a link for your reading pleasure. Its long but interesting none the least.

The 6.0 6l80???

Those things rock with a good reflash.

There's a lot worse engine tranny combos than that dude. A lot. Read up on stock 700R4s and 4L60s. Ford's E4ODs and Dodge's R34s (I might be wrong on the dodge code) but anything up to 2006 and Automatic Dodge

6.0L and the Allison 1000

UMMMM

NO.

6.0 6L80E

Not 4L80E like I have, a 6 speed version called the 6L80E

Allison is a diesel and used to be an 8.1L only option. Never came behind a 6.0

Pretty sure any transmission hooked up to the dodge was shit. That makes it easier to identify. :fist:

I'll take a picture when I remember to. We have (1) truck with a gas motor and the Allison... and the other truck is a 6L80E. They have both had transmissions put in them with less than 50,000 miles and the 80 is about to die again as it bangs 1st HARD and 2nd pretty stoutly... Last time it did the same exact thing and finally just stopped shifting any higher than 2nd and the dealer said they just put a new trans in and let it ride. The Allison Gas truck was sent to some dealer in SC to have the work done to it because the local dealer scratched their had and basically said WTF is this?

Fixed it for you.

The NV5600 6spd manual Dodge used '01+ is the cat's ass.

The 47RH/RE... total piece of shit in stock form and at least the first year or two of the 48RE replacement was engineered to fail($7 redesigned thrust washer creates an oil starvation issue in the planetary gear).

Just going from the spec sheets.

How loaded are those trucks and how many yahoos get to drive them 24-7?

If you do have some bastard truck that has that in it, I pose the question;

Chuck, why is the Ally 1000 "the shit" in your truck but when you put it behind a gas motor "the worst engine/ tranny combo ever offered by Chevrolet"

The engine isn't the problem, they're bulletproof unless they run on their side or vertical without an accumulator so is the Ally 1000 the worst tranny ever offered by Chevrolet?

I mean, if you want to put words in my mouth...

The 6.0 doesn't appear to have enough balls in it to keep the TC locked so all it does is slip clutches waiting for the right amount of power to build line pressure so it will change gears. I'm sure a lot could be fixed with a better tune or a different TC. It's my understanding that the stock TC is pretty much crap as well. Allison 1000 is awesome in a stock truck. Mine isn't a big fan of mine right now.

The trucks have two ladders, a small aluminum boat on a roof rack, camper shells with work boxes that have (1) 12VDC battery and a trolling motor, some harnesses, aluminum range poles, 10 road cones, (2) pairs each of hip and chest waders, about 25 total feet of 1/8" chain and pipe fittings (drag chain for deck inspections) half a dozen hammers, levels, and misc hand tools that don't way over 100 lbs total. And at MOST 4 people in the truck, which is rare.

The truck and motor combination in either case with the 6 speed transmissions are exactly as chucko says, prob because he has heard me complain about it, and the dealer even agrees with our complaints. The motor is just underated for the gear selection and the tune is mild enough and Emission controlled enough that the truck spends more time "optimizing" rather than just sucking up the load and not shifting. The boat does create a decent amount of aero drag, but no more than a couple of bikes would or a canoe on top of a Subaru or something. The trucks have lately both lost the blower motors in the HVAC as well.

And as for drivers, they aren't driven that hard as I work with a bunch of Non gearheads. They drive the trucks kindly because we know that we have to take care of them. If we trash them, we get stuck with crappier rental trucks and don't have room for our equipment.
