CURRITUCK, N.C. — A wild horse on North Carolina's Outer Banks had to be euthanized after it was injured in a collision with a deputy's cruiser.
The Daily Advance of Elizabeth City reported Tuesday that the Currituck Sheriff's Department said Deputy Jessie Taylor was patrolling the Carova Beach area near Mile Post 21 about 10:30 p.m. Monday when a wild stallion chasing another stallion collided with his car.
A statement from the department said the Corolla wild horse suffered a broken front leg and other injuries, and had to be euthanized by the Wild Horse Fund herd manager.
The state Highway Patrol said Taylor was not injured.
Sheriff Susan Johnson called the accident "very unfortunate," adding that such collisions are unavoidable, like colliding with deer or other wild animals.

Well, I am happy it was not cause by some jackass who was doing something he shouldn't have been. Sucks though.

i like how they just said its unavoidable, but if one of us would have done it we would be paying some tickets

I WANT to believe this story, but I still have some doubts. I have nothing against "cops" either.
I've seen some dumb animals too. Animals that run full speed across a rd with traffic coming. Out of fear they just run like hell, and cant reason like we can I guess. I can imagine the horse tearing across the sand and slamming into a slowly moving vehicle in the middle of the night with bright shiny headlights.

Are they gonna charge the "chaser" horse with aggravated assault?

I doubt a deputy was chaseing a horse, but ya never know

I dont think the deputy was chasing them either, but either cruising down the beach at a good clip, or running down the beach with them if the horses were already hauling ass, just keeping up and watching them. Just wanted to clarify. I'm sure a deputy would chase the horses around in their vehicle.
I guess this was a case of "The fucking thing came outta NOWHERE and slammed into my cruiser"

Ya I can see the horses down there not having good reasoning skills. And I too have met a couple nice deputies down there. It sux that it happened either way poor horse and maybe another nail in the offroad coffin.
