I’ve been running the stock 8.8 diff cover since I did my swap over a year ago and it wasn’t long before I peeled the bottom of the cover and got that slow ooze action going. I wanted to get a strong diff cover when I did the swap but for some reason or another I didn’t. Anyway, JP Magazine recently did and article called “The Great Diff Cover Shootout” and I decided that I would definitely buy a cover from one of the manufacturers listed in that article.
Great Lake Extreme Offroad won the shootout and after looking around online at some of the other covers I decided to go with the Great Lake diff cover. Their price was great and they were titled "BULLETPROOF." I bought the 8.8 cover with the extra ring armor. That comes out to ½” around the bolt ring, ¼” cover, and an additional 1/2'” plating over the ring gear. This thing is huge; it weighs 10 or 11 pounds. I know, WAY OVERKILL but at least my diff cover can hold up to the best that the numbered streets in Newport News have to offer and the rocks.
I’ll post more pics once it’s installed.
