Hey what years did the XJ have the vacum disconnect D30 and what years have the non Disconnect D30?

Did all the NonDisconnects have the bigger u joints?

I belive so on the u-joints. As for the vaccum Iif I rember correctly it was in the early 90's tha they went away from the vaccum disconnet. I will have to get back to you on the years.

If you ever want to upgrade the axles and want to stay the same width find a Tirino (Ford) with a 9in (Jeep width) and use a Waggy Front D44

I was thinking of upgrading my front axle shafts to non disconnect with 297 u-joints. Thats why I ask. I know I can use TJ shafts but I am sure XJ shafts would work.

Waggy front D44, Its the same width as your YJ and a direct bolt on fo the front, I know were you can ge one, local

91+ D30's are non-disco. Just to remember, when the 4.0 HO was introduced, the D30's had non-disco axles. The 90 and older XJ's with the renix 4.0's had the vaccum discos. I'm not sure about the U-joints, I'm like 60% positive that non-disco axles have bigger u-joints. However I know for a fact the 97+ D-30's have the 297 joints. Look for one of those if you can.

Facts......

Xj's had disconnects from 1984-1990 on the command trac drivetrains.

They have Non VD from 1984-2001 on the select-trac drivetrains

Most of the axles ran the 260 ujoints untill 97 then they switched to the 297 in all HP30s.

It is also rumored that 91+ non VD axles on a cherokee with ABS were also 297 jointed!
