Yea... I got back from GWNF late Tuesday night... Awesome trip. I'll post some good vid footage once I get it ripped. Anyways.. Stayed over at the GFs place, in Ghent, which is the nicest place you'll find in Norfolk. Shes been living there for 6 months and we've never had any problems with crime or anything. Well, I took my BIG tool box and some recovery gear out of the back of my TJ before going to bed that night but left some things, like two sleeping bags, lanterns, cook stove, etc etc in the back of the Jeep. I always leave my doors unlocked, and the tailgate unlocked as I have the 715$ Sailcloth, Bestop Replace a Top on my Jeep, less than a year old too. Well, I got up to go to work around 7 on Wed. Morning.. and sure enough my back right window had two enourmous holes in it, and the Rear window also had a whole big enough to fit a small child through. I was furious. Called the police to get an report to try and deal with the insurance company, which I am still battling over... Took 2 hrs for the police to get there. All they took was a 30$ Craftsmen tool kit that only had a few sockets in it, no ratchet, or screw drivers or anything because I had emptied most of it out into a larger box while recovering my buddy's XJ. They could have unlatched the gate and taken it, un zipped the window and taken it, or even opened the drivers door and taken it as it is always in there as more or less, an easy cheap thing to steal rather than screw up my top... well... they evidently didn't care about that. According to the neighbors who saw the Jeep cut, 20 minutes after I Got home, said that the back window wasn't cut, they even looked. Whoever did the side windows, was different from whoever did the back window, or the person came back and did the back window to take the tool box. Either way.. I would really like to know who did it, so I can beat the crap out of them and take to 200$ its gonna cost me out of pocket to replace the window set, with windows of lesser quality, that won't match right. Anyways, what I learned...Even if you leave your truck unlocked... The only way to Keep people from cutting my windows is to not live in the City... I'm outta here as soon as I get my degree.. Hurry up May..

I hate to hear that man. Check Bress Pawn shop on Granby for your stuff. Five bucks says it's already there, might take a couple days to hit the shelves; I've heard they cooperate well with folks who can identify their property. Ghent is a good neighborhood now, but wasn't just a few years ago, and the neighborhoods all around there are, well, bad.
As for the top... It amazes me how people on a mission to steal from others will take any measure to do so except for the obvious.
That really sucks man.

Yea, thanks man. I've been here for going on 5 years now, and its not the first Jeep thats been cut. When I lived in the Dorms my Freshman year I was sitting outside as some 8 year old kid was walking down the street with a box cutter hitting every top and sides of cars that he could. He got to mine before I could stop him. A bunch of us were able to scare him enough to get him to throw down the box cutter and he ran off and right into a police car as it was turning the corner. I don't know what became of the whole deal, but the school did send me a check for 120$ since the kid hit over 85 cars in the parking lot that night.
Maybe you'll learn now that it doesn't pay to keep your top on. :paddle:

Yea, actually with my prevoius Jeep, a YJ, after the 8 year old kid incident it spent the remainder of its life without windows, cept when I had to drive somewhere in the cold rain or snow.

I can almost understand why people slash the windows and steal stuff even when the doors are unlocked. I guess they're worried that opening the door would set off an alarm. I always leave my doors unlocked too for the very reason.
Im just waiting for the day though. No one is immune to it. The best we can do, in my case anyway when its not my DD, is limit the places it gets driven, and cross your fingers anytime you know it's at risk for slashing.
If I ever actually saw someone slashing anyones soft windows, there'd be a serious beatdown and I'd be pounding about $400 worth of surgery bills into someones face.

That sucks. I had something like that happen to me with a 95 YJ. Except they didn't cut the top. They stole my light guards and tail lights bulbs off the rear. And to ad insult to injury I didn't notice before I backed up and crushed the lenses. :bang:
How come the neighbors didn't come tell you that they saw the cuts?

its probly the same turd that slashed my bro's jeep in norfolk and stole his tools too. he djs there like 3 nights a week and even leaves his jeep unlocked like we all do and they still slash tops. i have had mine looted 3 times but thank god they tried the doors first. nothing of value was stolen since i am poor.
